Yemen

Security forces captured Abdullah Maodhah, an al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula leader, during a raid in Abyan; three soldiers and two civilians were killed during the raid. Protests have spread to the western province of Hadramout.


Thailand

Muslim terrorists killed one woman and wounded 12 more in a bombing at a market in Yala. The terrorists appear to have been targeting a police patrol as it passed by.



Pakistan

US Predators killed nine “militants” in an airstrike in North Waziristan. Abu Zaid al Iraqi, al Qaeda’s financier in Pakistan, and several Punjabis are thought to have been killed in yesterday’s Predator strike in South Waziristan. A US consular official in Pakistani custody for killing two gunmen is a CIA officer.




Afghanistan

A suicide bomber killed 32 civilians in Kunduz. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters and commanders in Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Khost, Paktia, Nangarhar, Takhar, and Jawzjan. Thirty Taliban fighters in Kandahar and 21 more in Badghis abandoned the insurgency.


Iraq

Insurgents killed 10 policemen in a car bombing in Samarra and a civilian in Fallujah. Security forces detained 20 wanted men in Maysan and 10 more in Diyala.


Somalia

Shabaab claimed credit for a suicide attack in Mogadishu that killed eight people. The African Union said six foreign al Qaeda fighters were killed during heavy fighting over the past several days in Mogadishu that has killed more than 20 people.


Yemen

President Saleh rejected protesters’ calls for him to resign his presidency. Thousands of Houthis joined protests in Sa’ada, while more than 10,000 protesters continue their sit-in in Sana’a. Security forces arrested an opposition leader.

Iran

Iranian Navy exposes a US Navy weakness


Afghanistan

The governor of Kunar claimed 65 civilians were killed in joint operations in the province; ISAF is investigating the allegations. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south. The death toll in yesterday’s attack on a Jalalabad bank rose to 38, including 12 police.


Pakistan

The US ended a 27-day-gap in Predator strikes, killing five “militants” in an attack in South Waziristan. Security forces claimed to have killed 28 Taliban fighters while repelling attacks on outposts in Mohmand and Arakzai.




Iran

A senior official working for the Suez Canal denied reports that Iranian warships passed through the Egyptian waterway; Iran claims two warships transited the canal and are in the Mediterranean Sea. Opposition leader Karroubi dared the regime to put him on trial as the Green Movement gathered for demonstrations.


Libya

Doctors in the eastern city of Benghazi claim that security forces killed more than 200 people and wounded more than 900 during protests since Feb. 16. One doctor said 90 percent of the deaths were cause by gunshots to the head, neck, or chest.


Bahrain

Protesters reestablished camps in the central square in Manama after police withdrew, and have set conditions for talks with the government. Crown Prince Khalifah has ordered the military to return to their barracks.


Morocco

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Rabat, Marrakech, and Casablanca to demand that the King devolve powers. Unlike protests in other Muslim countries, the demonstrations in Morocco have been peaceful.



Russia

Gunmen killed four tourists from Moscow in an attack in the village of Zayukovo in Kabardino-Balkaria. Gunmen also killed a village official in the village of Hasanya, also in Kabardino-Balkaria.


Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide assault team killed 18 Afghans during an attack on a bank in Jalalabad. The Taliban killed two ISAF soldiers in attacks in the south and the east. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters in Helmand and Kandahar.



Yemen

Government supporters killed one protester at Sana’a University. President Saleh accused the Socialist Party of carrying out “foreign agendas.” The chief of staff of Brigade 111 survived an al Qaeda assassination attempt in Abyan.


Iran

Egypt will allow two Iranian warships to use the Suez Canal. Protests against the government are planned for Sunday. Iran hanged six men accused of smuggling drugs.
