Pakistan

Sixteen Pakistanis were killed in a bombing at a gambling hall in Karachi; no group has claimed the attack. The US will provide Pakistan with 85 unarmed Raven UAVs.


Iraq

Insurgents killed a child in Samarra and a student in Mosul. Security forces detained 33 wanted men, including two Pakistanis and an Egyptian, in Basrah, and six insurgents in Kirkuk.


Indonesia

Police arrested 19 terror suspects involved in a plot to blow up a church over Easter weekend in Serpong; police found a massive bomb at the gas pipeline leading to the church. Police said Jemaah Islamiyah spiritual leader Abu Bakir Bashir may have masterminded the recent attacks in the country.


Somalia

Twenty-one people were killed in fighting between Shabaab fighters and the pro-government Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’a in El Waq. Puntland security forces detained 10 people suspected of being involved in attacks in Bosaso.


Libya

Rebels took control of a border outpost in the west after more than 200 pro-Gaddafi troops deserted to Tunisia. NATO bombers attacked Gaddafi forces in Tripoli and Gharyan. Two Western photojournalists were killed in Misrata.


Afghanistan

Special operations forces killed 17 Taliban and foreign fighters during a raid in Kunar that targeted an al Qaeda commander. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters in Zabul, Khost, Paktia, and Wardak. Pakistan

Admiral Michael Mullen said Pakistan has a “relationship” with the Haqqani Network but stopped short of accusing the country of supporting the terror group. A court indicted Maulana Abdul Aziz for killing a security officer during the Lal Masjid uprising in 2007. The Taliban in Mohmand killed two merchants for providing livestock to Afghanistan.



Somalia

Four people were killed after Shabaab attacked Somali forces in the town of Busar. Shabaab has banned women in the town of Bardhere from selling khat.


Libya

France and Italy are sending teams of military advisers to aid the Libyan rebels. The US is planning on sending more than $25 million in non-military aid to rebel forces.

Afghanistan

Coalition forces killed a Taliban and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan commander in an airstrike in Baghlan. Security forces captured Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Khost, and Logar. Senators demanded the defense minister resign after a suicide bomber penetrated the ministry.


Palestinian Territories

Hamas security forces stormed a hideout used by the Salafists who executed a pro-Palestinian Italian activist. Two terrorists, including a Jordanian, from al the Qaeda-linked Monotheism and Holy War were killed.


Al Qaeda

Omar Hassan, whose sister, Omayma, is married to Ayman al Zawahiri, was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year. Hassan likely facilitated the 2006 merger of the external branch of the Egyptian Islamic Group with al Qaeda.



Jordan

Ayman al Balawi was among 103 Salafi Islamists rounded up by Jordanian security forces after attacks in Zarqa wounded 83 policemen. Balawi is the brother of the al Qaeda operative who detonated a suicide vest at a CIA outpost in Khost, Afghanistan in December 2009.


Syria

The government lifted the 48-year-old emergency law and abolished the state security court. Security forces opened fire on anti-government protesters in Homs, wounding 25.


Somalia

Eighteen people were killed in fighting between Shabaab forces and government and African union troops in Mogadishu. Seven people were killed after “gunmen” attacked mosques in Galkayo over the weekend.


Libya

Britain will send 10 military officers to aid Libyan rebels fighting President Gaddafi’s forces. The officers will not engage in combat but will “provide logistics and intelligence training in a UK and French operation,” according to the BBC.




Russia

Security forces said they killed Israpil Validzhanov and three fighters in a shootout in Dagestan. Validzhanov, who is better known as Amir Khasan, was the leader of Islamic Caucasus Emirate forces in Dagestan.


Pakistan

Police arrested a “mastermind” of the recent suicide attack at a shrine in Dera Ghazi Khan. Various Taliban and terrorist factions met to discuss strategy in case the military invades North Waziristan.


Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide bomber killed two soldiers inside the defense ministry in Kabul. The Taliban killed six policemen in an IED attack in Ghazni and kidnapped nine Iranian road workers in Farah. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban, HIG, Haqqani Network, and IMU commanders and fighters in Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost, and Baghlan.


Iraq

Al Qaeda fighters killed 13 tribesmen associated with the Awakening in a village near Baghdad. Al Qaeda suicide bombers detonated two car bombs outside the Green Zone, killing nine Iraqis.


Palestinian Territories

Hamas released the names of three men, including a former Hamas policeman and a Jordanian, who are wanted for the murder of a pro-Palestinian Italian activist. The al Qaeda-linked Monotheism and Holy War terror group claimed that it killed the Italian.


Yemen

Security forces wounded more than 80 anti-government protesters in Hudeidah province. Twenty members of President Saleh’s political party defected and joined a political bloc that called for Saleh’s resignation.


Syria

Security forces reportedly killed more than 25 Syrians while attempting to suppress anti-government demonstrations in Homs. Tens of thousands of Syrians attended funerals today.
