Pakistan

Twenty-one “terrorists” and a soldier were killed during clashes in Mohmand. “Gunmen” killed four policemen and torched 10 NATO fuel trucks near Attock.


Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide bomber killed a tribal elder and two girls in Paktika. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Ghazni, Khost, Wardak, and Logar.


Iraq

Insurgents killed a Kurdish colonel in Kirkuk and a US soldier during combat operations on April 29 in southern Iraq. Iraqi troops arrested a member of the Anbar provincial council in Fallujah.


Yemen

“Masked gunmen” killed three soldiers and wounded five more during an assault on a government complex in Zinjibar in Abyan province. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has been blamed for previous attacks in the area.


Morocco

The interior minister said that the explosion in Marrakesh that killed 16 people was caused by a remotely detonated bomb. Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is the prime suspect in the Marrakesh attack, as the explosive used was TATP.


Libya

Libyan troops attacked rebel forces south of Benghazi in the town of Jalo, and took control of Ojla. Britain’s prime minister said NATO forces are targeting command and control nodes, not individuals. Russia voiced concern over NATO troops deploying in Libya.





Afghanistan

The Taliban announced that the Afghan High Peace Council would be one of the primary targets in their “Badar” offensive. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Uruzgan, Kandahar, Khost, and Baghlan. ISAF said the Afghan colonel who killed eight US airmen was not associated with the Taliban.


Russia

The Islamic Caucasus Emirate confirmed that its “governor” for Kabardino-Balkaria and two senior emirs were among several terrorists killed during an April 29 raid. Their deaths were announced on Kavkaz Center.


Somalia

Shabaab forces are reported to have withdrawn from the southern districts of Bardaale, Hudur, and Wajid. The UN said more than 50,000 people have fled the country due to recent fighting.


Iraq

A suicide bomber killed five soldiers and three civilians in an attack at a checkpoint in Mosul. Insurgents killed five Iraqis and kidnapped a judge in separate attacks in Baghdad province.


Yemen

President Saleh refused to sign a deal that would have him transfer power in 30 days. Security forces killed al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula commander Walid Abdel-Latif al Kayani in Abyan.


Syria

Troops loyal to President Assad shelled the city of Duraa and stormed a mosque. Security forces killed 62 people on Friday. Hamas denied reports that its leader, Khaled Mashaal, would leave the country.



Germany

Police arrested three Moroccan al Qaeda operatives during raids in the towns of Duesseldorf and Bochum. “We succeeded in preventing a concrete and imminent danger,” Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said.


Pakistan

The air force successfully tested a cruise missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Pakistani Rangers detained 400 people in Karachi.


Russia

Security forces killed 10 “militants” during a raid on a home on the border of Stavropol and and Kabardino-Balkari. Two policemen were killed during a clash with militants in Dagestan.


Afghanistan

Security forces captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar and Balkh. The Taliban killed two ISAF soldiers in an IED attack in the south.

Syria

The Muslim Brotherhood endorsed anti-government protests as security forces continue to crack down in several cities. More than 50 people have been reported killed during protests over the past several days. The IAEA said Syria attempted to build a nuclear reactor.


United States

A federal judge sentenced a Somali man to 10 years in prison for lying on his asylum application about his association with terrorist entities Al Barakat and Al Ittihad Al Islamiyah. Somalia

The Somali government claimed 36 Shabaab fighters were killed during clashes in Tulo Barwaqo. Two people were killed in Mogadishu as Somali forces fought amongst themselves.


Morocco

Minister of Public Affairs Khalid Naciri said that al Qaeda was among several suspects in yesterday’s suicide attack that killed 15 people at a cafe in Marrakesh. Ten foreigners were among those killed.

Libya

Libyan troops clashed with Tunisian forces in the town of Dehiba across the border. Libyan troops crossed the border while pursuing rebel forces who fled into Tunisia.



Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and fighters in Ghazni, Khost, and Badghis. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the east. Fifteen Taliban fighters reconciled with the government in Herat.


Pakistan

Five people were killed in a bombing of a Navy bus in Karachi. Security forces killed seven Taliban fighters in Hangu. The Taliban killed a soldier in Mohmand.
