Pakistan

The Taliban killed three policemen in an attack on a station in Shangla. “Gunmen” moved two kidnapped Swiss citizens from Zhob to South Waziristan. Police arrested the Taliban’s “intelligence chief” in Islamabad.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Ghazni, Khost, Logar, and Kunduz. The Haqqani Network is purchasing suicide bombers from the Pakistani Taliban, according to the NDS.


Iraq

Insurgents killed five policemen in Ramadi and another in Mosul, and two civilians in Baghdad. Police killed two al Qaeda fighters in Baqubah.


Yemen

Two civilians were killed in Yemeni airstrikes in Jaar in Abyan. An Army brigade said it is under siege in its base outside of Zinjibar.


Hezbollah

Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah rejected the indictment of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon that implicated four Hezbollah leaders and operatives in the assassination of former prime minister Rafiq Hariri. Nasrallah called the STL an Israeli plot and said the four operatives would never be arrested.


Pakistan

Security forces arrested a Turkish man as he tried to enter North Waziristan. NATO is attempting to shift up to 75 percent of its supplies from Pakistan to routes in northern Afghanistan.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed 13 civilians in an IED attack in Ghazni and an ISAF soldier in the west, and kidnapped a district governor in Kunar and three Turkish engineers in Jawzjan. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and IMU leaders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Ghazni, Khost, Paktika, Kunduz, and Balkh.


Iraq

Insurgents killed a policeman in Ramadi and kidnapped five Iraqis west of Ramadi. Security forces detained three wanted men in Kirkuk. Iran denied it is sending longer-range rockets to the Special Groups in Iraq.



Yemen

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has captured 50 Yemeni soldiers during fighting in Zinjibar. A powerful tribal leader in Abyan is seeking to negotiate with AQAP.


Somalia

AMISOM said 3,000 new troops from Uganda have arrived in Mogadishu, and said the US is providing military aid to the African Union. Aircraft have been spotted hovering over Kismayo.


Libya

President Gaddafi threatened to order attacks in Europe if the NATO bombing campaign does not end. “They can attack your homes, your offices and your families, which will become military targets,” he said in a speech broadcast in Tripoli.




Pakistan

Two Pakistanis were killed in a bombing in a market in Peshawar. Two Swiss citizens were kidnapped in the Loralai district in Baluchistan.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed 20 civilians in an IED attack in Nimroz. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Kandahar, Khost, Paktia, Logar, and Laghman.


Iraq

Iraqi forces have launched an operation against the Iranian-backed Shia Special Groups in Maysan. Two policemen and a soldier were killed in Mosul.


Hezbollah

Lebanon’s interior minister confirmed that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon has indicted Hezbollah operatives Mustafa Badreddine, Salim Ayyash, Assad Sabra, and Hussein Anaissi. Badreddine is the brother-in-law of slain Hezbollah military leader Imad Mugniyah.


Iran

A senior cleric advocated the spread of the Islamic revolution to the US and Europe. The Maersk Line shipping company will no longer do business at the Iranian ports of Bandar Abbas, Bandar Khomeini, and Asaluyeh.


Syria

Security forces killed three anti-regime protesters in Homs, three in Idlib, two in the suburbs of Damascus, and one in Latakia. The government blamed “gunmen” for killing the protesters.



Pakistan

The Pakistani military claimed they killed 40 Taliban fighters and destroyed 17 hideouts in Mohmand. The Taliban bombed a school in Peshawar.


Afghanistan

An ISAF airstrike killed a senior Haqqani network commander and several fighters in Paktia. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Helmand, Zabul, Paktika, and Balkh. The Taliban killed six Afghans in Helmand, and killed two ISAF soldiers in the south. Seventy-five insurgents reconciled in Balkh.


Army’s faulty computer system hurts operations


Iraq

Insurgents killed three US soldiers in southern Iraq, a police lieutenant in Fallujah, and a soldier in Baghdad. A soldier and two railway employees were wounded in a bombing on a train near Tikrit.


Yemen

Thirty Yemeni soldiers and 14 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters were killed during fighting in Zinjibar. AQAP has taken control of a stadium just outside of Zinjibar.


Somalia

Last week’s airstrikes that targeted Shabaab camps outside of Kismayo were carried out by US Predators. Security forces captured five Shabaab fighters in Gedo.


Al Qaeda

The al Qaeda-linked Shamukh al Islam jihadist forum has been taken offline, presumably by hackers. Al Qaeda and other terror groups use the forum to publish official announcements.


Hezbollah

The UN-supported Special Tribunal for Lebanon has indicted four Hezbollah operatives in the assassination of former prime minister Rafiq Hariri. The four have not been publicly named, but are reported to be Mustafa Badreddine, Salim al Ayyash, Hasan Aineysseh, and Asad Sabra.
