Afghanistan

Eleven policemen, five civilians, and 11 Taliban fighters were killed during yesterday’s fighting in Kabul. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Zabul, Khost, and Nangarhar.


Iraq

Insurgents killed 17 Iraqis in bombings and shooting in Hillah, Anbar, and Baghdad. Four policemen and two soldiers were among those killed in the attacks.


Yemen

Twelve al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters and two civilians were killed in fighting in Zinjibar. Yemeni security forces killed 13 people during shelling in Arhab. Saudi armor is rumored to have entered the country to help quell uprisings.



Pakistan

The Taliban killed four children and a school bus driver in Peshawar; the children were killed to intimidate tribesmen who oppose the Taliban. The Taliban killed apolitical leader in Dir.


Afghanistan

The Taliban launched an assault against ISAF headquarters, the US embassy, and two police stations in Kabul. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and IMU commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Khost, Paktia, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Badakhshan.


Iran

Iraq: Iranian connected militia member arrested


Yemen

Seven civilians were killed in Yemeni air strikes outside of Sana’a. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said the military is killing civilians in airstrikes in the south, and vowed to avenge the bombings.


Somalia

Three people were killed during fighting between Shabaab and a pro-government militia in Dhusamareb. Somali troops arrested three Turkish and 11 Somali aid workers after returning from an area administered by Shabaab.


Nigeria

A court charged eight Boko Haram members for their involvement in a string of bombings in Suleja. Boko Haram threatened to bomb 20 universities throughout the country.


Philippines

Security forces captured Abu Sayyaf commander Jurri Hamsiraji after a firefight in the southern Philippines. Hamsiraji served under a slain Abu Sayyaf leader who was known as Commander Robot.




Afghanistan

The Taliban killed two civilians in an IED attack in Baghlan. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Baghlan, and Faryab.


Yemen

“Gunmen” killed an intelligence officer in Aden. President Saleh has authorized Vice President Hadi to negotiate the transition of power.


Somalia

Twenty-six people were killed during fighting between Shabaab and government forces yesterday in El Waq in southern Somalia. Two civilians were killed in an IED attack in Guriel.


Philippines

Security forces killed three Abu Sayyaf fighters during a clash in the village of Etub-Etubin Basilan province. The remaining members of the 20-man-strong unit under the command of Abdulbaki Ismanul fled on boats.


Pakistan

US Predators killed four “militants” in a strike on the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan. The Pakistani government placed an advertisement in US papers touting its war against al Qaeda.



Afghanistan

Yesterday’s suicide attack on a base in Wardak killed five Afghans and wounded 77 US troops. The Taliban killed five civilians in Kunduz and five more in Logar. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters in Kandahar and Logar.


Iraq

Security forces detained 24 wanted men during raids in Ninewa province. Muqtada al Sadr ordered his followers to halt attacks against US forces “until the invader forces complete their withdrawal.”


Yemen

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula killed two soldiers in an IED attack in Zinjibar. The foreign minister met with the Pakistani ambassador and discussed Pakistan’s possible transfer of Osama bin Laden’s wife to Yemen.


Somalia

Fourteen people were killed during clashes between government forces and Shabaab fighters in El Waq. Shbaab took control of the district but later withdrew.





Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide bomber killed two Afghans in an attack on a base in Wardak province. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the east and a police chief in Ghazni. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Paktika, Logar, Nangarhar, Kabul, and Uruzgan.
