Pakistan’s Jihad continues

The report of the murder of a US Army major at a Pakistani base in Teri Mangal in 2007 is but the latest piece of evidence of that country’s duplicity.


Pakistan

US Predators killed three “militants” in North Waziristan. The Taliban destroyed three tankers carrying fuel for NATO. Tribesmen vowed to wage jihad against the US if it attacks Pakistan.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed 16 civilians, including 11 children, in an IED attack in Herat, and three policemen and two civilians in a suicide attack in Helmand. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Wardak, Baghlan, Kunduz, and Balkh.


Iraq

Insurgents assassinated an Iraqi Army brigadier in a shooting in Baghdad. Iraq has agreed to buy 18 F-16 fighters from the US.


Yemen

A suicide bomber driving a car packed with explosives targeted the convoy of Yemen’s defense minister in Aden. Ten soldiers were wounded in the blast; the minister was not hurt.


Spain

Civil Guards arrested five men suspected of supporting Islamist terrorists in North Africa. The men are accused of giving logistical and financial support to “terrorist groups that operate in the Algerian area of the Maghreb, specifically for al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.”




Iraq

Insurgents killed three civilians in an IED attack in Kirkuk and assassinated the director of Iraq’s Health Ministry office. Security forces detained three Ansar al Sunnah operatives in Kirkuk.


Yemen

Anti-government tribes took control of a Republican Guard base north of Sana’a. A general and several soldiers were killed, and tanks and other weapons were also seized.


Shabaab

Two Ugandan military officers were killed in Mogadishu over the weekend; one was killed by falling debris and other in an IED attack. Two Shabaab fighters surrendered to the government in Mogadishu.

Hezbollah leader could get military tribunal in US

Terrorists killed 17 people in four bombings in Karbala. Insurgents killed two soldiers in an IED attack in Khalidiya and a civilian in a bombing in Mosul.



Somalia

One person was killed in a bombing yesterday at the UN headquarters. Ten people were detained in connection to a bombing in Galkayo. A US “drone” is reported to have crashed in Kismayo, while fighter aircraft were spotted in the Jubba region.


Morocco

Security forces broke up an al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb cell known as the Al-Battar Brigade. Three members of the cell, which planned to travel outside the country to fight, were detained.


Indonesia

A suicide bomber killed himself and wounded 17 people in an attack at a church in Solo on Java island. Solo is the hometown of jailed Jemaah Islamiyah Abu Bakar Bashir.


Philippines

Thirteen suspected Abu Sayyaf Group fighters and an officer and a marine were killed during fighting in Sulu. The Abu Sayyaf fighters attacked troops guarding a construction project in the southern province.
