Iraq

Insurgents killed a policeman and a civilian in Baqubah, and another civilian in Kirkuk. The chief of police of Baghdadi was among five people killed in yesterday’s attack in the western town.


Al Qaeda in Iraq

The US added al Qaeda in Iraq’s emir, Abu Du’a, who is also known as Abu Bakr al Baghdadi al Husseini al Qurshi, to the list of designated terrorists. Abu Du’a is now one of the top three most-wanted terror leaders in the world, with a $10 million bounty for information leading to his capture.


Yemen

The Yemeni government denied reports that Yemeni Air Force fighter-bombers killed 30 soldiers during strikes in Abyan province. “Such news is unfounded,” the official news service of the state claimed.



Somalia

A Shabaab suicide bomber killed scores of people, including many students and their parents, in an attack at a compound in Mogadishu. Shabaab claimed they were targeting AMISOM and government officials.



Afghanistan

The Taliban killed three Afghans in a pair of suicide attacks in Kandahar. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Paktia, Balkh, and Logar.

Iraq

Security forces stormed a government building in the town of Baghdadi after suicide bombers took hostages; three of the hostages were killed. Insurgents killed the anti-crime director for Kirkuk and an intelligence official and a civilian in Baghdad.


Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

Unnamed members of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and tribal officials have claimed that Anwar al Awlaki was not killed in the Sept. 30 Predator strike in Al Jawf. The AQAP members claimed that proof would soon be released.

Shabaab killed two people in an IED attack in Karan north of Mogadishu. Three telecom and money transfer firms reopened after Shabaab closed them down for failing to pay bribes.



Libya

Morocco

Police detained five members of an al Qaeda-linked cell in Sale and Casablanca. The cell pledged allegiance to Ayman al Zawahiri; used the Internet to link up with al Qaeda groups in Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, and Somalia; and plotted attacks against Western targets.





Indonesia

Counterterrorism police from Detachment 88 have arrested one of the four most wanted terrorists connected to two suicide attacks in Solo and Cirebon over the past year. The suspect, Beni Asri, was detained in Solok in West Sumatra.



Afghanistan

Afghan officials blamed the Pakistani government, the ISI, and the Quetta Shura for the assassination of the head of the High Peace Council. The Taliban killed nine Afghan troops in Paktia and an ISAF soldier in the south. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Khost, Wardak, Logar, and Nangarhar.




Saudi Arabia

The government has begun the trial of seven Saudis thought to be members of an al Qaeda-linked terror cell. The men are said to have established a training camp in the mountains along the Yemeni border.


Yemen

The Yemeni air force killed 30 of its own soldiers in a strike outside of Zinjibar. The soldiers were from the 119th Brigade, which is said to support forces opposing President Saleh’s regime.


Uganda

Police arrested a Somali and a Ugandan in Kisenyi on suspicion of plotting terror attacks. The Somali was identified as Abdula Mohammed.
