Pakistan

US Predators killed five people in a strike in North Waziristan. The Lashkar-e-Islam killed four Frontier Corps troops in an ambush in Khyber. Security forces killed four Taliban fighters in Mohmand.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed two suicide bombers in Kabul, and killed and captured several Taliban fighters and commanders in Kandahar, Helmand, Khost, Paktia, Wardak, Logar, and Kabul. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south and denied its spokesman was captured.


Iraq

Security forces killed three suicide bombers in Baghdad, and captured al Qaeda’s governors of Diyala and southern Baghdad. Security forces also detained 19 “terrorists” in Diyala.


Yemen

Ten people were killed during clashes in al Jawf province between Houthis and members of the Islah party. Three French hostages kidnaped by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula have been freed.




Bahrain

Five members of a terror cell have links to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the public prosecutor’s office claimed. The cell planned to attack the Interior Ministry, the Saudi Embassy, and a causeway linking Bahrain to Saudi Arabia.


Al Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula

Egyptian police arrested the head of al Qaeda’s branch in the Sinai. Mohammed Eid Muslih Hamad, who is also known as El Tihi, was captured in El Arish. He has been behind six bombings of a pipeline to Israel and Jordan.


Pakistan

The Taliban killed 16 people in a pair of bombings in Khyber, and bombed two schools in Swabi and Nowshera. The military has imposed a curfew in areas of North Waziristan.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Hizb-i-Islam Khalis commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Khost, Paktika, and Logar. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south.


Iraq

Insurgents killed an Iraqi Army officer in Tikrit, a policeman in Fallujah, and two civilians in Baghdad. The US turned over two radar installations to the Iraqi military. Iraq abstained from the vote that suspended Syria from the Arab League.


Yemen

Security forces killed nine al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters, including five Saudis, in Zinjibar. More than 1,000 AQAP fighters are reported to have arrived in Shaqra. AQAP flogged five boys for running drugs in Jaar.



Somalia

The Kenyan military said Shabaab is no longer massing for attacks but is now using hit-and-run guerrilla tactics, including IEDs and ambushes. A large blast took place at a suspected Shabaab bomb factory in Hiran.


Kenya

Kenya is advocating the UN Security Council support its operation in southern Somalia. The military said it has “met its primary objective of creating a buffer zone [in Somalia] to secure the border of Kenya.”


Kazakhstan

An “Islamist militant” killed six people, including four security personnel, during attacks in the southern Kazakh city of Taraz. Jund al Khilafah, a group based on the Pakistan-Afghan border, vowed last week to continue attacks in Kazakhstan.


Pakistan

Five security officials and five militants were killed during fighting in Jhelum in Punjab province; one report said that the fighters were from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The Taliban killed a policeman in a rocket attack in Shabqadar.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed six civilians in Laghman, two engineers in Faryab, a tribal leader in Nimroz, and an ISAF soldier in south. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Hizb-i-Islam Khalis commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Ghazni, Paktia, Nangarhar, and Bamyan.


Iraq

Security forces detained five al Qaeda fighters in Wasit and six armed men in Baqubah. Insurgents killed a police commander in Fallujah. The Kurdish government reached a tentative agreement with Baghdad on petroleum exploration.


Yemen

Security forces killed six al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters during clashes in Zinjibar. The defense minister said the government would “defend the country against subversive elements of the opposition and the dissident army.”


Iran

A massive explosion at a base in Bid Ganeh on the outskirts of Tehran killed 27 members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The blast is thought to have been an caused by an accident that occurred as ammunition was being moved.



Nigeria

The Joint Task Force commander said that Boko Haram “is al Qaeda.” The JTF commander also said that the northern city of Maiduguri is unsafe.


Kenya

Thirty Shabaab fighters accepted an amnesty offer by the government. The group members who accepted amnesty were Kenyans and Somali refugees.



Afghanistan

The Taliban is accused of stoning a mother and daughter to death for committing adultery in Ghazni. The Taliban killed an ISAF solider in the south.


Iraq

Security forces captured an al Qaeda emir in Karbala and a military doctor who supported terrorists in Khalis. Insurgents killed an Awakening member in Baqubah.


Yemen

Yemeni troops loyal to President Saleh killed 10 people in attacks in Taiz. Forces loyal to General Mohsen and Islah killed a Yemeni army officer and an Islamist cleric in Taiz.


Somalia

Shabaab claimed it destroyed six Kenyan armored vehicles during fighting in Tabta and Dhobley in the south. Shabaab reportedly executed three civilians in the area as well.
