Somalia

Sheikh Mohammed Said Atom’s forces in Puntland, which have operated under the aegis of Shabaab for years, have officially declared allegiance to the terror group. Shabaab imposed a curfew in Afgoye.



Nigeria

Boko Haram fighters killed 10 civilians and two policemen during a series of bombings and armed clashes in Gombe last night. The terrorists failed to storm a prison and instead destroyed a police station.


Morocco

A terrorism court handed down sentences ranging from one to six years to 27 men accused of plotting terror attacks. The cell leader was identified as Hicham El Ba, and at least one member of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is among the group.



Pakistan

A suicide assault team from the Abdullah Azzam Brigade killed four policemen in Peshawar. Seven “terrorists” and three soldiers were killed during clashes in Khyber. The Taliban bombed a school in Swabi.


Afghanistan

Nine Afghans were killed during riots over the burning of Korans at a US base earlier this week; four were killed while attempting to storm the US consulate in Herat. Yemen

Sixty-five percent of eligible voters cast ballots for Vice President Abed Hadi to succeed President Saleh; Hadi was the only candidate on the ballot. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula commander Fahd al Quso threatened to attack Islah for being a tool of of the US.


Somalia

The US killed three foreign jihadists, including a Moroccan, in an airstrike in the K60 area south of Mogadishu. The UN approved the expansion of African Union forces to more than 17,000 troops. The AU is approved for 12,000 troops but only 9,000 are currently in country.


Nigeria

“Gunmen” killed five people in a shooting at a mosque in Kano. The government imposed a curfew in Gombe after Boko Haram attacked a police headquarters in the city.





Pakistan

Thirteen people were killed in a car bombing at a bus station on the outskirts of Peshawar. Pakistani military officials blamed the US, Israel, and India for fomenting unrest in Baluchistan.


Afghanistan

Seventeen people, including two US soldiers, have been killed during riots over the burning of Korans at Bagram Air Base; an Afghan soldier killed the two US troops in Nangarhar. Iraq

Al Qaeda in Iraq killed more than 60 Iraqis in a series of bombings and armed attacks across Iraq. Terrorists struck at security forces and civilians in Baghdad, Hillah, Balad, Mosul, and Kirkuk.


Somalia

Shabaab has withdrawn its forces from Howlaha Guud as Ethiopian and Somali troops advance on the western town of Bardale. Six people were killed in an IED attack in Bardale. Two IEDs were detonated at a base in Baidoa that was formerly used by Shabaab.


Nigeria

Boko Haram fighters killed six policemen in separate attacks in Kano; 15 fighters were also detained during clashes. Boko Haram is suspected of torching two schools in Maiduguri this week.




Pakistan

Unknown “gunmen” killed two security personnel and a civilian in an attack in Abbottabad. The Lashkar-e-Islam killed three people in an IED attack in Khyber.


Afghanistan

Afghan Security forces killed eight Afghans during violent protests over the burning of Korans at the Bagram Air Base. Coalition and Afghan security forces captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Helmand and Logar.


Iraq

Security forces detained an Ansar al Sunnah leader in Anbar and 10 wanted men near Kirkuk. Insurgents killed a civilian in Mosul.


Somalia

Shabaab withdrew from Baidoa after Ethiopian and Somali forces advanced on the city. The terror group also withdrew from Bardale. A Shabaab cleric said that “fathers and mothers must send their unmarried girls to fight alongside the (male) militants.”


Nigeria

Several explosions and gunfire were heard in a suburb of Kano, where Boko Haram has been active. The suburb has been cordoned off by security forces, which are thought to be targeting Boko Haram safe houses.




Afghanistan

Afghans protested after Korans were accidentally burned at Bagram; General Allen apologized and issued a directive on the disposal of religious materials. The Taliban beheaded four “spies” in Helmand and killed three ISAF soldiers in the south.


Iraq

Insurgents killed a tribal leader in Al Amiriyah. Security forces detained two al Qaeda fighters in Wasit. Iraqi officials said al Qaeda fighters are moving into Syria, resulting in a reduction of violence. Saudi Arabia named an ambassador to Iraq.
