Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed the Feb. 25 suicide bombing at a presidential compound in Mukalla that killed 28 Yemenis. AQAP said that it would “”come after this American project,” referring to the Yemeni government.



Somalia

The manager of Radio Somaliweyn was gunned down in front of his home in Mogadishu. Abdullahi Mohamed Saeed, a former member of parliament, was murdered at a market in Galkayo.


Taliban claim CIA ‘fabricated’ truce letter from Mullah Omar

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan issued a formal denial of a letter calling for a ceasefire that was purportedly signed by Mullah Omar. Instead, the Taliban vowed to “intensify its operations against the Americans, their allies and their despicable internal supporters and [to] continue unabatedly with its sacred Jihad.”



Pakistan

“Gunmen” opened fire on a bus in Kohistan, killing 18 Shia passengers. Four Pakistani soldiers and 10 Taliban fighters were killed during a clash in South Waziristan.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed seven civilians in a bombing in Helmand. France and Germany have withdrawn advisers from Afghan ministries while the UN has withdrawn personnel from Kunduz.


Iraq

Insurgents killed seven Iraqis in Baghdad and another in Fallujah. Asaib al Haq, the Iranian-backed terror group, has released the body of US Army Sergeant Ahmed al Taie to the Iraqi government.


Yemen

The Yemeni military reportedly gave al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula one week to leave the cities of Zinjibar and Jaar or face an assault. A general from Taiz accused of killing civilians during protests has fled to Egypt.


Nigeria

Boko Haram fighters killed a policeman during attacks on a bank and a police station in Bauchi. Boko Haram fighters are suspected of torching a school in Maiduguri.


Kenya

A soldier and a Shabaab fighter were both killed after the terror group attacked a military checkpoint near Mandera. The town hosts a large refugee camp for Somalis fleeing the fighting across the border.


Somalia

Shabaab killed nine Somali soldiers during an ambush in Lower Jubba; five Shabaab fighters were also killed. Shabaab killed five youths as they played soccer in Mogadishu.


Russia

The Federal Protective Service said that it foiled a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Vladmir Putin after the upcoming election. Islamic Caucasus Emirate leader Doku Umarov sent three men to kill Putin, the FSO claimed. Two men are in custody.


Pakistan

The Taliban killed seven people in a car bombing in Nowshera and rocketed a police outpost in Peshawar. Helicopter gunships killed six Lashkar-e-Islam fighters in Khyber. An “al Qaeda hitman” may be released from prison after witnesses withdrew their testimonies.


Afghanistan

A suicide bomber killed nine Afghans in an attack outside Jalalabad Airfield. The NDS arrested four government workers for spying for Iran and Pakistan. Police accused a female senator of being involved in a kidnapping ring. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Farah, Khost, and Logar,


Yemen

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters whipped five people in Jaar for drinking alcohol. President Saleh reportedly will go in exile in Ethiopia. Parliamentarians said that Yemen must develop a counterterrorism strategy without US involvement.


Somalia

Shabaab claimed to have killed seven Kenyan troops during an ambush in Kulbiyow. A pro-government militia killed a Shabaab commander in Go’don.


Nigeria

Security forces arrested seven people suspected of plotting to bomb a church in Bauchi. The government deported more than 11,000 foreigners in response to attacks by Boko Haram.




Afghanistan

Eight people were killed during ongoing riots over Koran burning in Afghanistan. Seven US soldiers were wounded in the riots in Kunduz. French aircraft reportedly killed three Afghan civilians in Kapisa.


Iraq

Insurgents killed a soldier in Mosul and the brother of an Army colonel in Baghdad. Security forces detained several people behind an attack on clerics in Najaf.


Yemen

Security forces killed five al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters while shelling their positions in Zinjibar. One soldier was also killed in Zinjibar. Protesters from the Southern Movement killed two soldiers in Aden.



Somalia

Twenty-seven people were killed during clashes between Shabaab and Ethiopian forces in Hudur and Luuq. The Kenyan military said it would not negotiate with Shabaab.


Nigeria

A Boko Haram suicide bomber killed six Christians during an attack at a church in Jos. Christians retaliated and killed three people during riots in the city.



Afghanistan

An Afghan policeman killed two US Army officers in the Interior Ministry; ISAF has withdrawn its advisors from the Afghan ministries. Six Afghan soldiers were killed while attempting to defuse a bomb in Badghis. Security forces captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Khost, and Nangarhar.


Yemen

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed credit for a suicide attack that killed 26 people, including 20 soldiers, at the presidential compound in Mukalla. President Hadi said at his inauguration that the country must continue to fight al Qaeda.


AQAP suicide bomber kills 26 Yemenis

The al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula suicide bomber struck the presidential palace in Mukalla just hours after newly sworn in President Hadi vowed to continue to fight the terror group.
