Afghanistan

The Taliban killed a farmer in Faryab accused of being a “spy” and an ISAF soldier in the south. Fourteen schoolgirls were poisoned in Kabul. One day after ISAF said it would not conduct airstrikes on homes, the US Department of Defense said strikes on homes could occur.


Iraq

Seventy Iraqis, including Shia pilgrims and five soldiers, were killed in a series of coordinated bombings and attacks in Baghdad, Hillah, Karbala, and Balad. Al Qaeda in Iraq likely executed the attack. Two AQI fighters were arrested in Wasit.


Yemen

The military said 30 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters were killed in three airstrikes in Azzan. At least one of the strikes was conducted by US drones in Azzan; nine AQAP fighters were killed.


Al Nusrah Front

The Al Nusrah front claimed credit for a suicide attack in Idlib on June 1 that targeted a military base. Al Nusrah claimed it followed the suicide attack by ambushing Syrian troops who were attempting to conduct a rescue mission; the convoy was hit with seven IEDs.


Somalia

Ethiopian soldiers and Somali militias abandoned the towns of Mahas and Wabho in the Gedo region; Shabaab has retaken control of the towns and arrested seven people. The government claimed it defeated a Shabaab attack in Qoqani; Shabaab claimed it killed six Kenyan and five Somali soldiers.


Tanzania

Security officials captured Emrah Erdogan, who is wanted by the Kenyan government for joining Shabaab in Somalia. Erdogan, a German national who is also known as Salahuddin al Kurdi, attended terrorist training in Waziristan, Pakistan.







Afghanistan

A suicide bomber killed two people in Balkh. Two suicide bombers killed only themselves in Uruzgan. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south and a civilian in Paktia.



Yemen

The Yemeni military said it took control of the cities of Zinjibar, Jaar, and Rahowah; 20 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters and four soldiers were killed. A Yemeni news outlet claimed AQAP released a statement confirming the withdrawal.



Somalia

Shabaab forces attacked pro-government militias in Qoqani. Shabaab arrested four people linked to the government and Ethiopian forces in El Bur. A pro-government militia in Dhusamareb beat and arrested two journalists.


Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb blamed the German government for the death of a hostage who was killed by the terror group during a raid on May 31. AQIM said Germany approved the raid by Nigerian security forces.



Pakistan

The US has ended negotiations with Pakistan to reopen NATO’s supply routes into Afghanistan. Two people, including an anti-Taliban militia leader, were killed in bombings in Khyber.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed five civilians in Sar-i-Pul, two women in Ghazni, and two intelligence officers in Farah and Kunar. Four Taliban fighters in Paktika died in a premature detonation.


Yemen

Twenty-eight al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters and six soldiers were killed during fighting outside of Jaar. The military said it retook the Batis area and the October 7 factory in Abyan province.


Somalia

Shabaab beheaded two young boys in El Bur, just one day after Ethiopian and Somali troops abandoned the town. The US may sanction Somali leaders who block the political roadmap.


Nigeria

Boko Haram claimed credit for yesterday’s suicide attack in Jos and shootings in Biu. Boko Haram targeted churches in both attacks, killing eight people and wounding dozens more.


Tunisia

Al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri railed against the Ennahda Islamist party and called for them to support sharia, or Islamic law, to serve as the country’s constitution. Two Libyan operatives from al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb were sentenced to 20 years in prison.


Pakistan

Ten people, including a soldier, were killed during fighting between the military and the Taliban in Wana in South Waziristan. Police arrested a Taliban operative in Karachi.


Afghanistan

The Afghan military said 47 Taliban fighters were killed during operations in Laghman, Parwan, Helmand, Uruzgan, Kabul, and Farah. ISAF said that seven Taliban fighters were killed in Nangarhar. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south.




Iraq

Six people were killed in a mortar attack that targeted Shia pilgrims in Baghdad. Al Qaeda in Iraq claimed credit for the suicide attack that killed 25 people at the Shiite Endowment in Baghdad.


Yemen

The military said three al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters were killed during shelling outside of Jaar. A Yemeni official also claimed five AQAP fighters were killed in a drone strike on June 7; the report has not been confirmed.
