Yemen

President Hadi said the government is willing to negotiate with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula if the terror group disarms. AQAP reportedly has withdrawn the bulk of its forces from Aden and Abyan and is regrouping in Marib, Al Jawf, and Sa’ada.


Somalia

Kenyan strike aircraft hit the airport in Kismayo; a Shabaab weapons depot was reportedly destroyed. The spokesman for Hizbul Islam claimed the group has ended its alliance with Shabaab, and described Shabaab as “weakened.” One person was killed in an IED attack in Beledweyne.



Iraq

Insurgents killed nine Iraqis in bombings and shootings in Baghdad, Fallujah, and Tarmiyah. Among those killed were a brigadier, four policemen, and a soldier.


Yemen

An anti-al Qaeda militia detained four AQAP fighters in Jaar. A liquefied natural gas pipeline that feeds the Balhaf terminal was bombed.


Somalia

The Kenyan military arrested one of its soldiers accused of killing nine civilians in Jana Cabdalla. Heavy fighting was reported in Dumay, a town under Shabaab control.


Nigeria

The Joint Task Force killed 35 Boko Haram fighters during clashes in Damaturu on Sunday and Monday. Sixty suspected Boko Haram fighters were also detained during the operation.



Afghanistan

The Afghan military claimed it killed 49 Taliban fighters in Helmand. Four anti-Taliban militia members and 24 Taliban fighters were killed in clashes in Ghazni. Iraq

Insurgents killed four children in a car bombing in Hit and shot two policemen dead in Kirkuk. The government is speeding up executions, citing security concerns; 96 people have been executed this year.


Yemen

“Gunmen” killed a colonel in the Political Security Office in an attack in the capital of Sana’a. Yemeni fighters are said to be among a number of foreign fighters battling the Assad regime in Syria.


Somalia

Kenyan soldiers reportedly executed nine Somalis in Jana Cabdalla. The Kenyan military spokesman said six Somalis were killed while approaching a checkpoint in the town, and an investigation has begun.



Afghanistan

Thirty-six Taliban fighters and 11 Afghan soldiers were killed in clashes throughout the country. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the east. Three policemen defected to the Taliban in Badghis.


Russia

Four policemen were killed during security operations in Chechnya’s Vedeno district. Security forces killed four “militants” during clashes in Khasavyurt in Dagestan.


Yemen

The Political Security Office has again refused to prosecute al Qaeda suspects. Militiamen in Jaar arrested three suspected al Qaeda operatives. Houthis in Sana’a have painted hundreds of murals calling for “Death to America.”


Somalia

Shabaab claimed the assassination of a member of parliament. AMISOM said over 200 Shabaab fighters surrendered in Garsale.


Kenya

Police released photos of five Shabaab fighters from Egypt, Morocco, and France thought to have entered Kenya. Mandera residents are concerned that Shabaab fighters will flood the town once the offensive in Kismayo begins.


Nigeria

A suicide bomber killed a woman and a child in an attack at a Catholic church in Bauchi. The government imposed a curfew in Damaturu and Potiskum as security forces search for Boko Haram operatives.




Iraq

Insurgents killed five soldiers in an IED attack in Dhuluiyah and a civilian in a bombing in Baqubah. A senior Iraqi politician described the US’s policy towards Iraq as “very weak.”


Yemen

A suicide bomber wounded the head of an anti-al Qaeda militia from Jaar in an attack in Aden; the militia leader and four bodyguards were wounded. Thirteen people were killed during clashes between Houthis and Sunni tribesmen in Amran.



Kenya

Four paramilitary troops and three civilians were wounded in a double IED attack near a hospital in Garissa. The first IED targeted a paramilitary vehicle; the second blast targeted emergency responders.



Afghanistan

The Taliban killed five civilians in an IED attack in Helmand. Three former Taliban fighters were gunned down in Faryab. President Karzai urged the Taliban not to interfere in an anti-polio vaccination program.


Iraq

Iraq stopped a North Korean airplane that is suspected of transporting weapons to the Syrian regime from using Iraqi airspace. Security forces detained eight people, including several terrorists, in Kirkuk.


Somalia

A pair of Shabaab suicide bombers killed 15 people at a cafe in Mogadishu. A journalist was gunned down in the capital. More than 10,000 people are said to have fled Kismayo.


Kenya

Police have issued a terrorism alert for five suspected Shabaab operatives who recently left the southern Somali city of Kismayo to plot attacks in Kenya. The men were identified as Salim Si Mohamed and Nadane Si Mohamed (from Morocco), Mahmoud Abdel Aziz Hassan and Mohamed Ali Mahmoud Khalifa (Egyptians), and Rachid Benomari (a French national).
