The government closed several Islamic charities, including one tied to the Muslim Brotherhood, for “overstepping their mandate.” The MB-linked Tewassoul opposition party said it was prevented from holding a meeting in Nouakchott “for security reasons.” Protests were held in several cities earlier this week against the desecration of several Korans in Nouakchott on March 3.
