Turkey shot down a Syrian jet, claiming it violated Turkish airspace; the plane crashed in Syrian territory near the contested Kasab crossing. Hezbollah claimed to have killed three rebel car bomb experts in Qalamoun along with four of their bodyguards in an ambush. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham launched an offensive to seize the Kobani region from Kurdish forces. The Al Nusrah Front and the Islamic Front clashed with regime forces in Idlib; 18 wounded Islamist fighters were moved to Turkey for treatment and at least five non-Syrians died in battle. Regime forces seized areas of Latakia from the Al Nusrah Front and the Islamic Front. One of President Assad’s cousins was killed while fighting the Islamic Front in Latakia. Al Nusrah and the Islamic Front also battled regime forces in Aleppo.
