A grenade attack outside a nightclub frequented by tourists wounded 10 people in Mombasa. A former Kenyan soldier was arrested in Hagadera refugee camp and accused of collaborating with Shabaab.


Cameroon

A Cameroonian security source said the government released a senior Boko Haram leader in exchange for French priest Georges Vandenbeusch. Seven people were killed in a clash between Cameroonian military and gunmen from the Central African Republic.

Czech Republic

Czech police are investigating the death of Palestinian ambassador Jamal Al Jamal in an explosion in his home as a case of negligence and illegal arms possession; police found enough submachine guns to equip at least a 10-man combat unit. The Prague police chief said the fatal blast resulted from “inexpert handling of an explosive.”


Pakistan

A suicide bomber killed three people and wounded 30 more in an attack on a bus in Quetta. The suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a bus that was transporting Shia travelers from Iran.


Iraq

“Islamist militants” attacked police stations and government buildings in Fallujah, Ramadi, and Tarmiyah to free prisoners and seize weapons. Fighters are in control of areas of Ramadi and Fallujah. In Tarmiyah, four policemen were killed after jihadists assaulted a police headquarters in the city.


Syria

An opposition activist group that reports on the Syrian conflict said its network of sources is increasingly being threatened by Islamist extremists. The Syrian Electronic Army reportedly hacked Skype. The 11-nation Friends of Syria group plans to convene in the coming days in advance of the Geneva II talks.


Turkey

Security forces seized a truck in Hatay province carrying arms and ammunition that was headed for the Syrian border. The Hatay governor then tried to take the truck from the soldiers but failed; the Hatay public prosecutor is investigating. Six people were killed during a Shabaab suicide assault on the Jazeera hotel in Mogadishu. Shabaab detonated two car bombs outside the hotel, then two suicide bombers were gunned down before entering the hotel complex.
