The Obama administration continued to press its case for a US military intervention in Syria, and said Saudi Arabia has endorsed the idea. Iraq said it will not be used as a base for a US intervention. Syrian president Assad denied authorizing the use of chemical weapons against Syrians and demanded proof of allegations to the contrary. White House Chief of Staff McDonough claimed that “everyone agrees” with the US account that blames the Assad regime for the Aug. 21 attack in Damascus.
