Panamanian authorities launched a “major investigation” after anti-drug personnel searched a North Korean ship headed from Cuba through the Panama Canal and found containers of “sophisticated missile equipment” hidden beneath a cargo of sugar. The North Korean captain attempted suicide, and the crew tried to resist the seizure of the ship by Panamanian forces. The captain and crew have been detained.
