Australia

Police announced that they have four primary suspects in the 1982 bombing of the Israeli consulate and the attempted bombing at the Hakoah club. Authorities are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. The cold-case was reopened last year following an interview with a terrorist in an American jail.




Tunisia

Tunisian Islamists seek to join trial against European feminists who protested topless


Pakistan

Nawaz Sharif, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, has been sworn in as prime minister. Sharif immediately called for the US to end drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal area. In the past he has called for negotiations with the Taliban.


Afghanistan

Eight Taliban fighters were killed in a premature detonation in Zabul. The Taliban killed six civilians in IED attacks in Helmand. Six Taliban fighters and two children were killed in clashes in Kunduz. The Red Cross has withdrawn some of its personnel after last week’s suicide assault on its office in Jalalabad.


Iraq

Insurgents killed three Awakening members in an IED attack in Madeen. Security forces arrested seven “terrorists” in Maysan, an al Qaeda commander and two fighters in Fallujah, and another al Qaeda fighter in Al Zubair.


Yemen

Government forces launched an offensive against al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in the town of Ghayl Bawazir, near Mukallah in Hawdramout province. Seven AQAP fighters, two civlians, and an Army officer are reported to have been killed. The town is one of several in the area under AQAP control.


Palestinian Territories

Hamas denied reports that its military wing seeks to maintain a relationship with Hezbollah and Iran despite opposition from members of the group’s Politburo. Palestinian terrorists reportedly fired three mortars toward Israel. The mortars landed in Gaza. Seven Hamas members were arrested by PA security forces in the West Bank.


Somalia

Shabaab killed five civilians in Johwar; the group claimed it killed seven “apostates” in the town. Shabaab also claimed it killed 10 Sierra Leon troops near Dhobley. Security forces captured Shabaab commander Abdikafi Mohamed Ali in Puntland; one soldier was killed during the raid..

Egypt

A court sentenced 43 people, including 19 Americans, to jail terms ranging from one to five years for working at “unregistered” NGOs. Secretary of State Kerry condemned the sentences and said it was a “politically-motivated trial.” A youth activist was sentenced to six months in jail for insulting President Morsi.


Palestinian Territories

President Abbas said a new government will be formed in the coming days. Secretary of State Kerry reportedly asked Abbas for more time to restart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian leadership. Seven Hamas members were arrested by PA security forces in the West Bank.
