Boko Haram fighters attacked government offices, a police station, and a prison in Maiduguri. Three Boko Haram fighters who were killed in Maiduguri on March 5 were attempting to torch a school. An anonymous Boko Haram spokesman said “the group would “strike fear into the Christians of the power of Islam by kidnapping their women.”

Yemen

The Interior Ministry has deployed two units to Al Huta, the provincial capital of Lahj. The Yemeni Army is preparing to launch a “decisive battle” in Abyan with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.


Somalia

Shabaab arrested 10 women in Afgoye for unknown reasons. Shabaab’s governor for the Banadir region said the terror group is still conducting attacks in Mogadishu and denied its forces withdrew from the capital.

Egyptian cleric Abd Al Maguid Al Shazli said “the banner of jihad will be raised in Egypt” and praised al Qaeda’s operations and leaders. Shazli made his statement at a funeral that was attended by Egyptian presidential candidate Hazem Abu Ismail.


Nigeria

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, reportedly escaped a raid in Kano last week; his ex-wife is said to have been detained. Boko Haram fighters killed two security guards at the home of the state commissioner of police in Kano.
