Sweden

The attempted assassination of Obid Nazarov, a popular Uzbek cleric in the northern city of Stromsund, is being blamed on Uzbek government officials. Nazarov remains in a coma following the February attack. He had fled to Sweden in 2006 after the Uzbek government sought to arrest him for terrorism.









Pakistan

US drones killed five “militants” in North Waziristan. Security forces killed four Taliban fighters in Arakzai. The Taliban killed a soldier in an IED attack in Nowshera. Secretary of Defense Panetta said that the US will not be “gouged” by Pakistan on the reopening of NATO’s supply lines.


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed seven ISAF soldiers, an Afghan Army commander, and two civilians in separate attacks in the south and east. Afghan officials said eight civilians, including six children, were killed in an ISAF airstrike in Paktia.

Yemen

Security forces killed 15 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters in Jaar and seven more in Zinjibar. The chief of security in Aden said AQAP has infiltrated the city. AQAP offered to free a Swiss and a Saudi hostage in exchange for a ceasefire.


Somalia

Puntland’s Maritime Police Force captured 11 pirates in the Hafun district. The commander of Somalia’s military said that the armed forces are preparing to eject Shabaab out Lower and Middle Shabelle.
