India

Pakistani rights activist Marvi Sirmed attacked by gunmen in Lahore


Afghanistan

The Taliban killed the chief of police for the Dand district in Kandahar province. A Taliban commander and 12 fighters reconciled with the government in Herat. President Obama said the Afghan war is ending.


Iraq

“Gunmen” killed three soldiers during an attack on a base in Taji; three insurgents were detained. Security forces detained nine al Qaeda fighters in Bayji.



Yemen

The Houthis in northern Yemen threatened to retaliate against the US if it conducts more drone strikes in the north. Yemen Liquid Natural Gas is setting up watchtowers in an effort to curb bombings of the gas lines to the Balhaf terminal.



Syria

Rebels launched an assault on the strategic airbase of Taftanaz in northern Syria in an attempt to disrupt strikes by government aircraft and helicopters on rebel-held areas. The Al Nusrah Front, an al Qaeda-associated group, participated in the attack.

Two suicide bombers attacked a Mogadishu restaurant frequented by Somali expatriates. The attackers opened fire on security guards, killing one, before detonating their explosives. Somalia said Uganda’s threatened withdrawal from the AMISOM force poses risk at a “critical moment.”
