Thirty-six Taliban fighters and 11 Afghan soldiers were killed in clashes throughout the country. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the east. Three policemen defected to the Taliban in Badghis.


Russia

Four policemen were killed during security operations in Chechnya’s Vedeno district. Security forces killed four “militants” during clashes in Khasavyurt in Dagestan.

More than 180 people were killed during heavy fighting in Aleppo and across the country. Fighting spilled across Syria’s borders into Lebanon and Turkey.

Iran

A senior member of parliament accused the IAEA of passing nuclear secrets to Israel. A senior IRGC commander said Iran could launch a preemptive strike against Israel and that Iran would also target US bases in the region.


Yemen

The Political Security Office has again refused to prosecute al Qaeda suspects. Militiamen in Jaar arrested three suspected al Qaeda operatives. Houthis in Sana’a have painted hundreds of murals calling for “Death to America.”


Somalia

Shabaab claimed the assassination of a member of parliament. AMISOM said over 200 Shabaab fighters surrendered in Garsale.


Kenya

Police released photos of five Shabaab fighters from Egypt, Morocco, and France thought to have entered Kenya. Mandera residents are concerned that Shabaab fighters will flood the town once the offensive in Kismayo begins.


Nigeria

A suicide bomber killed a woman and a child in an attack at a Catholic church in Bauchi. The government imposed a curfew in Damaturu and Potiskum as security forces search for Boko Haram operatives.


Libya

President al-Megaref ordered all militias in the country to either submit to government control or disband. The announcement came after the Ansar al Sharia militia was driven out of Benghazi by protesters on Friday. Two Islamist militias in eastern Libya said they would disband.

Egyptian Leader Mohamed Morsi Spells Out Terms for US-Arab Ties



Iraq

Insurgents killed five soldiers in an IED attack in Dhuluiyah and a civilian in a bombing in Baqubah. A senior Iraqi politician described the US’s policy towards Iraq as “very weak.”


Yemen

A suicide bomber wounded the head of an anti-al Qaeda militia from Jaar in an attack in Aden; the militia leader and four bodyguards were wounded. Thirteen people were killed during clashes between Houthis and Sunni tribesmen in Amran.


Bangladesh

Protests erupted in the capital of Dhaka. Clashes with police left scores injured. Authorities had banned protests near the city’s main mosque to avoid unrest.

Iran

Iran accused a German company of attempting to sabotage its nuclear program by planting explosives inside its equipment. An Iranian Republican Guard commander expected Iran to go to war with Israel.


Syria

Rebel forces moved their command center from Turkey into a liberated area of Syria. The Free Syrian Army is expected to move all its leadership into Syria soon into either Idlib or Aleppo provinces.


Libya

In Benghazi, hundreds of angry protesters stormed the headquarters of an Islamic militia and drove it out of the city. The Ansar al Sharia militia is thought to be responsible for the murder of the US ambassador last week. Protesters carried signs reading “The ambassador was Libya’s friend” and “Libya lost a friend.”
