Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

US intelligence officials believe al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is attempting to manufacture ricin for a WMD attack on the US. Officials said that AQAP was gathering the precursors and attempting to manufacture them in safe havens in Shabwa province in Yemen.







Pakistan

The Taliban killed three policemen while freeing Taliban prisoners from custody in Peshawar. Mohmand Taliban commander Omar Khalid claimed credit for yesterday’s female suicide attack in Peshawar.



Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Paktia, and Baghlan. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south.


Pakistan

US disputes report alleging high civilian death toll from drone strikes




Russia

Security forces killed seven “militants” in Dagestan, including a commander who trained a suicide bomber and who is supposedly linked to “the Georgian special service.” A policeman was murdered at his home in Dagestan.

Soldiers killed four al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters during artillery strikes in Zinjibar. Tribesmen arrested 15 suspected AQAP fighters in Lawder.


Somalia

Shabaab and government forces again clashed in Mogadishu. The Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency said it was opening an office in Somalia.




Egypt

Security officials said Egyptian forces will launch an operation against al Qaeda cells that have been established in the Sinai peninsula. The cells are operating “in the area of Sakaska close to Rafah” and have been training for more than a month.


Philippines

Two men who were planting a bomb on a road in the southern Philippines were killed in a premature detonation. The chief of police speculated that the bomb was intended to disrupt talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
