Algeria

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb killed two Algerian soldiers in an IED attack in the Tissemsilt region. Abdelkahar Belhad confirmed that Abdelkahar Belhad was killed when he carried out the July 25 suicide attack.


Syria

Syrian security forces killed 27 people in attacks against anti-regime protesters throught the country. Thirteen were killed in Hama, where the government is deploying militias called shabbiha.

The local government in Kashgar claimed the East Turkestan Islamic Movement was behind the attack that killed 11 people. The government said the leader of the group was captured and his fighters trained at a camp in Pakistan.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Paktia, and Paktika. Afghan officials claimed ISAF killed four policemen in an airstrike in Kunar.


Pakistan

US Predators killed four Taliban fighters in an airstrike in South Waziristan. The Taliban torched 10 tankers in Khairpur that are used to transport fuel to NATO forces in Afghanistan.


Yemen

Yemeni strike aircraft killed 13 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters in Zinjibar. The commander of the besieged 25th Mechanized Brigade said Yemeni security forces abandoned their weapons and fled during the AQAP takeover of Zinibar two months ago.


Iraq

Security forces detained 28 wanted men in Basrah. Attacks by Iranian militias on US forces decreased significantly in July.
