Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Helmand, Paktika, and Laghman. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south. The US said the amount of civilian aid provided to Afghanistan will begin to decrease.


Iran

The IAEA will release a report next week on Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons. There are two different views on the outcome: the report will be damning and drive several nations to consider military action; or the talk of war is “overheated rhetoric” and diplomatic efforts to restrain Iran’s nuclear program will likely continue.



Iraq

Insurgents killed a US soldier in northern Iraq. Iraqi forces arrested three members of an al Qaeda assassination cell in Diyala. A US military spokesman warned that Iran’s Qods Force and al Qaeda in Iraq will remain a threat after US forces depart.


Somalia

Kenya claimed it killed 18 Shabaab fighters as they transported fuel via boat to Kuday. Shabaab detained 10 people in Baidoa and accused them of spreading rumors that Eritrea was supplying weapons to the group.





Kenya

Kenya is reconsidering its ties to Eritrea after accusing the country of ferrying supplies to Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia. Kenya threatened to shoot down aircraft transporting weapons to Shabaab.




Pakistan

US Predators killed three Haqqani Network fighters in North Waziristan who were loyal to Jan Baz Zadran. The Foreign Office said the Pakistani Army would train Afghan troops.


Afghanistan

A suicide assault team attacked a construction company near the PRT in Herat; two Afghan guards and five Taliban fighters were killed. The Taliban killed a British soldier in Helmand. Security forces killed three Taliban fighters in Nangarhar and detained another in Khost.


Iraq

Ten Iraqis were killed in a suicide and car bomb attack on Awakening Council members in Baqubah. The US is requesting that Iraq transfer Hezbollah commander Ali Mussa Daqduq to US custody. Muqtada al Sadr claimed the US is planning to occupy the Middle East.


Somalia

The governor of Gedo said Somali troops killed 10 Shabaab fighters. Djibouti said it will send 850 soldiers to support the African Union mission in Somalia. Kenya is requesting the US help blockade the southern city of Kismayo.


Kenya

Shabaab threatened to wage “endless war” against Kenyan forces in southern Somalia. The Kenyan military said the Rad Kamboni area in Somalia is still a “no go zone.”











Thailand

Insurgents killed six people in a bombing in Narathiwat province. Six border policemen were wounded in a bombing while patrolling in the Bannang Sata district in Yala province.
