Egypt

Muslim Brotherhood sells cheap food ahead of holiday and Egypt parliament vote





The Taliban

Mullah Omar released an Eid al Adha message on the Taliban’s propaganda website, Voice of Jihad. Omar called on the Taliban to keep fighting and limit civilian casualties.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Khost, Paktia, Paktika, Wardak, Logar, and Laghman. The Taliban killed five civilians in an IED attack in Sar-i-Pul. Brigadier General Fuller was relieved of command after disparaging President Karzai.


Iran

U.N. claims that Iran made computer models of a nuclear warhead


Israel

Israeli forces boarded two boats of activists attempting to run the blockade of Gaza. Israel began deporting 27 “activists” detained during the boarding of two Canadian and Irish boats.


Syria

Despite the Arab League peace deal, the Syrian government forces remained in place and attacks on protestors continued. Syria said it would withdraw troops from the streets on Sunday and gave civilians one week to turn in their arms. The Arab League warned of disaster if its plan to end violence fails.

Libya: Pro-Gaddafi group targets hundreds for assassination








Yemen

The military killed five al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters during artillery attacks in Zinjibar. One person was killed in clashes between Salafists and Houthis in Sa’ada.


Somalia

The Kenyan Navy sunk another boat thought to be transporting Shabaab fighters off the coast of Ras Kamboni. Five people were killed after Shabaab forces clashed with fighters loyal to the local Shabelle Valley administration. A soldier was killed by “gunmen” in Mogadishu.


Nigeria

Boko Haram attacked security headquarters, churches, and mosques in coordinated attacks in Maiduguri, Damaturu, and Potiskum, killing scores of people. The terror group deployed suicide bombers during the attacks.


Kenya

Kenya’s Foreign Affairs minister summoned the Eritrean ambassador and warned his country against sending arms to Shabaab. A UN convoy struck a land mine outside of the Dadaab refugee camp near the Somali border; the mine did not explode.





Canada

The Canadian Supreme Court has refused to review the case of Abdullah Khadr, a Canadian accused of supplying arms to al Qaeda. After his arrest in Pakistan in 2005, he was indicted by a US court, but Canadian lower courts declined to extradite him to the US, and he was released last year.
