The Taliban is accused of stoning a mother and daughter to death for committing adultery in Ghazni. The Taliban killed an ISAF solider in the south.


Iraq

Security forces captured an al Qaeda emir in Karbala and a military doctor who supported terrorists in Khalis. Insurgents killed an Awakening member in Baqubah.


Yemen

Yemeni troops loyal to President Saleh killed 10 people in attacks in Taiz. Forces loyal to General Mohsen and Islah killed a Yemeni army officer and an Islamist cleric in Taiz.


Iran

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei denounced the UN nuclear report as a fabrication and said any invader would “receive a strong slap and iron fist.” US Defense Secretary Panetta warned of the consequences of military action against Iran. France threatened “unprecedented sanctions.” The US planned to sell “bunker buster” bombs to the UAE.


Somalia

Shabaab claimed it destroyed six Kenyan armored vehicles during fighting in Tabta and Dhobley in the south. Shabaab reportedly executed three civilians in the area as well.

Ahmad Wali Siddiqui, a German-Afghan man captured by US forces in Afghanistan in July 2010, has been charged in federal court with being a member of al Qaeda and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. Information obtained from him after his capture shed light on an al Qaeda plot against European targets.
