Insurgents killed three civilians in an IED attack in Kirkuk and assassinated the director of Iraq’s Health Ministry office. Security forces detained three Ansar al Sunnah operatives in Kirkuk.


Yemen

Anti-government tribes took control of a Republican Guard base north of Sana’a. A general and several soldiers were killed, and tanks and other weapons were also seized.


Shabaab

Two Ugandan military officers were killed in Mogadishu over the weekend; one was killed by falling debris and other in an IED attack. Two Shabaab fighters surrendered to the government in Mogadishu.


Jordan

Jordanians demonstrated across the country, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit’s government, the dissolution of the lower house of Parliament, and the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador. The Israeli embassy staff left Amman in fear the demonstration would turn violent.

Morocco

Security forces broke up an al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb cell known as the Al-Battar Brigade. Three members of the cell, which planned to travel outside the country to fight, were detained.


Indonesia

A suicide bomber killed himself and wounded 17 people in an attack at a church in Solo on Java island. Solo is the hometown of jailed Jemaah Islamiyah Abu Bakar Bashir.


Philippines

Thirteen suspected Abu Sayyaf Group fighters and an officer and a marine were killed during fighting in Sulu. The Abu Sayyaf fighters attacked troops guarding a construction project in the southern province.
