Pakistan

The Pakistani military launched an operation against the Taliban in Kurram. The Taliban are reported to have launched an attack into Bajaur from Kunar in Afghanistan; one policeman was killed.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, Khost, Paktika, Nangarhar, Balkh, and Kunduz. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the east. ISAF is searching for a missing British soldier in Helmand.


Iraq

A suicide bomber killed only himself after detonating his vest in Haditha. Insurgents killed a civilian in a bombing in Baghdad.


Yemen

The defense minister said troops have been deployed around Aden to prevent the city from falling to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. An unnamed military official denied reports that 50 soldiers have gone missing in Zinjibar.


Italy

Italy deported Yamine Bouhrama to Algeria after his six-year-long prison sentence expired. Bouhrama was convicted of establishing an al Qaeda-linked terror cell in Italy.


Nigeria

Eight people were killed and 15 more were wounded in a bombing in Maiduguri. Police said the Islamist terror group Boko Haram is behind the attack.

Pakistan

The Taliban killed three policemen in an attack on a station in Shangla. “Gunmen” moved two kidnapped Swiss citizens from Zhob to South Waziristan. Police arrested the Taliban’s “intelligence chief” in Islamabad.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Ghazni, Khost, Logar, and Kunduz. The Haqqani Network is purchasing suicide bombers from the Pakistani Taliban, according to the NDS.
