Pakistan

US Predators killed 15 “militants” in strikes in North and South Waziristan. The military denied an Army major was among five CIA informants who were arrested for providing information on Osama bin Laden’s whereabouts in Abbottabad.


Afghanistan

Taliban suicide bombers killed 11 people in attacks in Wardak and Paktia. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Khost, and Kunduz. Twenty-seven US senators called for a significant draw-down of US forces.


Iraq

US helicopters opened fire on insurgents in Basrah, killing one and wounding three. Insurgents killed two Iraqi soldiers in Mosul and two more in Baghdad.


Somalia

Nine people were killed during fighting in Garbaharey. Security forces rounded up 100 people after a government official was assassinated in Bosaso. Somalia’s prime minister has refused to resign.

Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Logar, Wardak, Khost, Paktika, Nangarhar, Kunduz. Fifteen Taliban fighters reconciled in Herat after their commander was killed. The government officially requested that Pakistan turn over top Taliban commanders in their custody.
