An al Qaeda suicide assault team dressed as policemen killed nine people in an attack on the Diyala provincial council in Baqubah; Iraqi troops killed the five attackers. Insurgents killed a government employee in Baghdad and a policeman in Mosul.

The CIA plans to target al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula using unmanned Predator and Reapers aircraft. Airstrikes against AQAP had previously been conducted by the US military.

Syrian forces are continuing the crackdown on anti-regime elements in the north. Six people were killed in the town of Ariha near east of Jisr al Shughour, while tanks and armored vehicles have been deployed around the town of Albu Kamal.
Three people were killed during fighting between Shabaab and government forces in Garbaharey. Shabaab detained 10 civilians in Elbur for “committing deeds against the religion of Islam.”
