Pakistan

The Pakistani military claimed they killed 40 Taliban fighters and destroyed 17 hideouts in Mohmand. The Taliban bombed a school in Peshawar.


Afghanistan

An ISAF airstrike killed a senior Haqqani network commander and several fighters in Paktia. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Helmand, Zabul, Paktika, and Balkh. The Taliban killed six Afghans in Helmand, and killed two ISAF soldiers in the south. Seventy-five insurgents reconciled in Balkh.


Army’s faulty computer system hurts operations


Iraq

Insurgents killed three US soldiers in southern Iraq, a police lieutenant in Fallujah, and a soldier in Baghdad. A soldier and two railway employees were wounded in a bombing on a train near Tikrit.


Yemen

Thirty Yemeni soldiers and 14 al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters were killed during fighting in Zinjibar. AQAP has taken control of a stadium just outside of Zinjibar.



Somalia

Last week’s airstrikes that targeted Shabaab camps outside of Kismayo were carried out by US Predators. Security forces captured five Shabaab fighters in Gedo.

The al Qaeda-linked Shamukh al Islam jihadist forum has been taken offline, presumably by hackers. Al Qaeda and other terror groups use the forum to publish official announcements.


Hezbollah

The UN-supported Special Tribunal for Lebanon has indicted four Hezbollah operatives in the assassination of former prime minister Rafiq Hariri. The four have not been publicly named, but are reported to be Mustafa Badreddine, Salim al Ayyash, Hasan Aineysseh, and Asad Sabra.
