Somalia

Eighteen people were killed in fighting between Shabaab forces and government and African union troops in Mogadishu. Seven people were killed after “gunmen” attacked mosques in Galkayo over the weekend.


Libya

Britain will send 10 military officers to aid Libyan rebels fighting President Gaddafi’s forces. The officers will not engage in combat but will “provide logistics and intelligence training in a UK and French operation,” according to the BBC.

Russia

Security forces said they killed Israpil Validzhanov and three fighters in a shootout in Dagestan. Validzhanov, who is better known as Amir Khasan, was the leader of Islamic Caucasus Emirate forces in Dagestan.




Pakistan

Police arrested a “mastermind” of the recent suicide attack at a shrine in Dera Ghazi Khan. Various Taliban and terrorist factions met to discuss strategy in case the military invades North Waziristan.


Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide bomber killed two soldiers inside the defense ministry in Kabul. The Taliban killed six policemen in an IED attack in Ghazni and kidnapped nine Iranian road workers in Farah. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban, HIG, Haqqani Network, and IMU commanders and fighters in Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost, and Baghlan.


Iraq

Al Qaeda fighters killed 13 tribesmen associated with the Awakening in a village near Baghdad. Al Qaeda suicide bombers detonated two car bombs outside the Green Zone, killing nine Iraqis.


Palestinian Territories

Hamas released the names of three men, including a former Hamas policeman and a Jordanian, who are wanted for the murder of a pro-Palestinian Italian activist. The al Qaeda-linked Monotheism and Holy War terror group claimed that it killed the Italian.


Yemen

Security forces wounded more than 80 anti-government protesters in Hudeidah province. Twenty members of President Saleh’s political party defected and joined a political bloc that called for Saleh’s resignation.


Syria

Security forces reportedly killed more than 25 Syrians while attempting to suppress anti-government demonstrations in Homs. Tens of thousands of Syrians attended funerals today.
