Five Nepalese security guards and three UN workers were killed after a mob overran a UN compound during a protest against the burning of a Koran in the US. Twenty-five Taliban fighters and six US soldiers were killed in heavy fighting in Kunar. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and fighters in Helmand, Kandahar, Paktika, and Kunduz.
