Pakistan

The Taliban killed 14 paramilitary troops in an ambush in Khyber, bombed two schools in Darra Adam Khel, and torched a NATO fuel tanker in Kalat. The Taliban and the Haqqani Network created the Lashkar-e-Khorasan to hunt down US spies in North Waziristan and surrounding areas.





Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide bomber killed 20 road workers in an assault on a compound in Paktika province. The Taliban freed 19 of the 50 Afghan men kidnapped yesterday in Kunar. Security forces killed and captured several Taliban and Haqqani Network commanders and fighters in Helmand, Kandahar, Nangarhar, and Logar.


Iraq

Insurgents killed six women and a young man in an attack on their home in Mosul. Three terrorists were killed when their car detonated prematurely in Baghdad. Kurdish Peshmerga forces withdrew from areas of Kirkuk.


Somalia

Seven people were killed in fighting between Shabaab forces and Somali and African Union troops in Mogadishu. The European Union is providing $93 million to the African Union mission in Somalia.




China

Peking University to screen students for ‘radical thoughts’





Yemen

A blast at a weapons factory in Jaar in Abyan province killed 78 people. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula fighters looted the factory of truckloads of weapons and several armored vehicles prior to the blast, which is said to have been an accident.


Iran

Bahrain condemned Iranian meddling in its internal affairs; Qatar denied seizing Iranian ships. India will pay for Iranian oil through the German Central Bank.


Libya

Rebel forces, backed by NATO air cover, have taken control of Nawfaliyah and advanced to the town of Sitre, the home town of President Moammar Gaddafi. Qatar has recognized the rebels as the official representatives of the Libyan people.


Syria

Security forces opened fire on protesters in Duraa; casualties have not yet been reported. Security forces also arrested an American citizen and accused him of inciting protests against the Assad regime.
