The governor of Kunar claimed 65 civilians were killed in joint operations in the province; ISAF is investigating the allegations. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south. The death toll in yesterday’s attack on a Jalalabad bank rose to 38, including 12 police.

The US ended a 27-day-gap in Predator strikes, killing five “militants” in an attack in South Waziristan. Security forces claimed to have killed 28 Taliban fighters while repelling attacks on outposts in Mohmand and Arakzai.

Security forces quell opposition protests in Tehran



Iran

A senior official working for the Suez Canal denied reports that Iranian warships passed through the Egyptian waterway; Iran claims two warships transited the canal and are in the Mediterranean Sea. Opposition leader Karroubi dared the regime to put him on trial as the Green Movement gathered for demonstrations.


Libya

Doctors in the eastern city of Benghazi claim that security forces killed more than 200 people and wounded more than 900 during protests since Feb. 16. One doctor said 90 percent of the deaths were cause by gunshots to the head, neck, or chest.


Bahrain

Protesters reestablished camps in the central square in Manama after police withdrew, and have set conditions for talks with the government. Crown Prince Khalifah has ordered the military to return to their barracks.


Morocco

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Rabat, Marrakech, and Casablanca to demand that the King devolve powers. Unlike protests in other Muslim countries, the demonstrations in Morocco have been peaceful.
