The Taliban killed three policemen in Helmand, two soldiers in a suicide attack in Khost, two ISAF soldiers in the north and the south, and a security guard in Paktia. Security forces killed and captured Taliban and Haqqani Network leaders and fighters in Helmand and Khost.





United States

A federal court indicted three Muslims from San Diego for conspiring to aid Shabaab. One of the men, Saeed Moalin, was in direct contact with Aden Hashi Ayro, the former military commander of Shabaab who was killed in a US airstrike in 2008.


Somalia

Shabaab fighters killed three Somali soldiers during fighting in Mogadishu. The African Union authorized more than 800 Somali police officers to be trained in Kenya and Djibouti.

The military killed an al Qaeda fighter during a clash in Abyan. A court convicted 16 members of an al Qaeda cell in Hadramout province. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula urged the Awlaki tribe in Shabwa not to cooperate with the government.


Al Qaeda in Iraq

Al Qaeda in Iraq vowed to carry out suicide attacks against Christians worldwide. “All Christian centers, organizations and institutions, leaders and followers are legitimate targets for the muhajedeen wherever they can reach them,” the terror group said in a statement released on Jihadist forums.


Iran

The US Treasury designated Jundallah, which is also known as the People’s Resistance Movement of Iran, as a terrorist organization. Jundallah has carried out several suicide attacks against the IRGC.

An anti-Taliban tribal leader was killed in Kurram. Security forces killed two Taliban fighters in Swat; another was killed in a premature detonation in Kurram. A Taliban commander surrendered in Bajaur. The Taliban bombed a school in Mohmand.





Somalia

Hizbul Islam leader Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys vowed to continue to wage jihad against Somali and African Union forces. A Shabaab leader urged women to send their sons to wage jihad in Mogadishu. The president of Puntland declared victory over Shabaab forces under the command of Mohamed Said Atom.


Philippines

Suspected Abu Sayyaf Group fighters have kidnapped a woman in Basilan province. The Abu Sayyaf fighters responsible for the abduction in Ungkaya Pukan town appear to be led by Nur Hassan. The withdrawal of the 1st Marine Brigade in Basilan province has stoked fears of a resurgence of violence.


Afghanistan

Security forces killed and captured Taliban and Haqqani Network leaders and fighters Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Khost, Paktia, and Nangarhar. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south.



Iraq

Thirty Iraqis were killed and 75 more were wounded in a series of 13 bombings in Shia areas in Baghdad. Three security officials and a captured al Qaeda commander were killed in an IED attack in Saadiya. An Awakening officer was killed in a shooting in Kirkuk.


Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is shopping for weapons in Chad and “laundering money” by buying “large tracts of land and villas in Niger, Mali, and Mauritania.” AQIM is using money obtained in illegal activities, including millions from the ransoming of European hostages.
