Top al Qaeda leaders, including Suleiman Abu Ghaith, a top spokesman who recently left Iran, may have relocated to Yemen. “Some of these leaders however have moved to Yemen and have taken the charges of command and coordination of al Qaeda operations,” an intelligence report stated.
Saudi security forces are on alert for a possible al Qaeda attack during the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to the Saudi cities of Mecca and Medina. Interior Minister Prince Nayef did not mention a specific plot, however.
President Ahmadinejad said that Western pressure on Iran’s nuclear program has had no impact. Iran and Venezuela are exploring the possibility of constructing a an alternative passage to the Panama Canal. Tehran was denied a seat on the new UN agency for woman’s rights.
