Security forces captured two Islamist fighters, including a member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. The Islamists were detained in the Rasht Valley, where troops have been battling militants, on Nov. 14.


Insurgents killed an Army brigadier and five civilians in attacks in Baghdad, Tikrit, Fallujah, and Mosul. Security forces killed two terrorists in Mosul and detained five Qaeda fighters in Khanaqin.


Somalia

The commander of African Union forces in Somalia apologized for the deaths of two civilians during mortar strikes that targeted Shabaab in Mogadishu. A British warship destroyed a pirate skiff off the coast of Somalia.


Yemen

A suicide bomber killed 17 Shia Houthis in an attack on a religious procession in Al Jawf province. The Houthis accused the US and Israel of masterminding the attack.


Thailand

Islamist insurgents killed three people in Narathiwat province. The gunmen killed two Muslim politicians and a Buddhist teacher in their van shortly after they left a meeting with Thai military officials at a local military base.
