Seven people were killed in fighting in Mogadishu. The Somali government called for 20,000 more foreign troops to aid in the fight against Shabaab and Hizbul Islam. Pirates reportedly received a $9.5 million ransom for the release of a South Korean oil tanker and a crew of 24.
