Afghanistan

Karzai’s brother calls for US to shore up Kabul Bank as withdrawals accelerate








Pakistan

Punjabi Taliban suicide bombers killed 29 worshipers during a procession in Lahore. The Pakistani military killed more than 60 terrorists and civilians in airstrikes in Khyber, and 15 Taliban fighters in Kurram and Arakzai. The Taliban torched two NATO fuel tankers in Mastung and Khuzdar.



Afghanistan

The Taliban killed Kandahar province’s hajj and pilgrimage chief in an IED attack and an ISAF soldier in the south. Combined forces killed and captured several Taliban leaders and fighters in Nangarhar, Logar, Khost, Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, and Kunduz.


Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

The ACLU asked a federal judge to block the US from killing al Qaeda cleric Anwar al Awlaki. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is suspected of attempting to assassinate a brigade commander in Lahj province; two of his bodyguards were wounded in the ambush.


The Taliban

The US government has designated the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan as a terrorist entity, and has named Hakeemullah and Waliur Rehman Mehsud as specially designated global terrorists. Hakeemullah and Waliur now have $5 million bounties out for information leading to their capture and prosecution.


Iran

Former British Prime Minister Blair called for the West to use force if Iran “continues to develop nuclear weapons.” The Iranian media called for France’s first lady to die.

Mauritania identifies suicide bomber recently shot as AQIM member

Three attacks by Islamists have left five security forces killed and over 20 injured. A suicide bomb truck attack on a military patrol left four soldiers dead and twenty others wounded in Zemmouri.
