Pakistani military declares victory in Arakzai. Again.

Today the Pakistani Army claimed that the Taliban-infested tribal agency of Arakzai has been “cleared” of the Taliban. An Iraqi soldier killed two US soldiers after a dispute in Tuz. Five “gunmen” were killed after attacking a US base in Basrah. A news anchor for Al Iraqiya was gunned down in Baghdad.

The Taliban killed a district governor in Baghlan and an ISAF soldier in the south. Coalition and Afghan forces killed and captured several Taliban commanders and fighters in Farah, Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, and Khost.




Somalia

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

A Saudi named Khaled Battarfi is the leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in the Yemeni province of Abyan. Battarfi, who is also known as Abu Miqdad al Kindi, took charge after his predecessor was killed during a March 14. airstrike.


The Taliban

The Pakistani Taliban took credit for yesterday’s suicide attack in Lakki Marwat that killed in 10 civilians and nine policemen, and said the attacks were to avenge US Predator strikes. “We will continue suicide attacks on security forces,” spokesman Azam Tariq said. “Civilians should avoid proximity with them.”


Al Qaeda in Iraq

The Islamic State of Iraq, al Qaeda’s political front, claimed it carried out the Sept. 5 suicide assault on an Iraqi Army base in central Baghdad. Iraqi troops repelled the assault, which resulted in 12 people killed.

Thailand

An insurgent bomb attack wounded three police officers and one soldier in Yala’s Raman district. Suspected insurgents wounded three people in a drive-by in Narathiwat’s Rueso district. Four locals were wounded in a bomb explosion in a market in Pattani’s Khok Pho district.
