Doku Umarov, the emir of the Caucasus Emirate, relieved four Chechen field commanders of their leadership positions for their actions in attempting to pressure Umarov to step down in early August. The four commanders are Aslambek Vadalov, Tarkhan Gaziyev, Khusein Gakayev, and Arab Mukhannad.
