Iran

French special forces and Mauritanian troops killed seven al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb fighters during a raid on a terrorist camp in northern Mali. There is no word on the status of Michel Germaneau, a Frenchman held hostage by AQIM.

US Military

Two US soldiers have gone missing in Logar province, just south of Kabul; they were reported missing on July 23. The Taliban claimed to have killed a US soldier and captured two others.



Russia

Insurgents killed three Russian soldiers in two attacks in the Republic of Dagestan in the southern Caucasus. Three soldiers were gunned down in Buynaksk, while the chief administrator in the village of Cherniayevka was shot and killed near his home.
