Iran

A senior member of the Iranian parliament said that “Pakistan is terrorists’ shelter” and “Pakistani officials must be held accountable for the issue.” Police arrested 40 people in connection to the Zahedan mosque suicide attacks that was carried out by Jundallah.


Turkey

Security forces detained 39 suspected al Qaeda operatives during raids in the cities of Adana, Istanbul, Canakkale, and Antalya. More than 400 police were involved in the operation.





Pakistan

Ten people were killed in a bombing at a market in the Tirah valley in Khyber. The Taliban attached explosive vests to two “US spies” and blew them up in North Waziristan, and destroyed five NATO fuel tankers in Khuzdar and Mach near Quetta.



Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

The US Treasury designated American-born Muslim cleric Anwar al Awlaki as a terrorist for his involvement in several terror attacks. “He has involved himself in every aspect of the supply chain of terrorism — fundraising for terrorist groups, recruiting and training operatives, and planning and ordering attacks on innocents,” the Treasury stated.



Iraq

Insurgents killed six civilians in attacks in Fallujah, Baghdad, and Hillah. Security forces detained four al Qaeda in Iraq operatives in Fallujah. The US turned over the Camp Cropper detention facility to Iraq.

Four policemen and two civilians were killed in a carbomb attack in Tikrit. Insurgents killed a policeman in Hillah and a civilian in Baghdad. An insurgent killed himself in a premature detonation in Kirkuk. Police detained two members of a car bombing cell in Karbala.
