US and Afghan forces killed a top Haqqani Network commander and several fighters in Khost, and detained an undisclosed number of Taliban fighters in Kunduz and Logar. A Taliban commander and 30 of his fighters laid down their weapons in Herat province. The US said there is more than $1 trillion in untapped mineral wealth in Afghanistan.
