Faisal Shahzad more ambitious than thought

With the continued questioning of failed Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, more details are emerging about the details of the plot. Should the crude bomb that Shahzad planned for the Times Square attack have detonated successfully, a contingency plan was in place with additional targets already scouted. From Fox News:

Shahzad, who authorities say left a car bomb in Times Square on May 1, had also hatched plots against other high-profile targets in and around New York City: Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Terminal, the World Financial Center – just across from Ground Zero – and the Connecticut-based defense contractor Sikorsky.

Shahzad also bought a second vehicle through Craigslist – a black Isuzu rodeo – from a mechanic in Stratford, Conn.

    Stacks up:
    * No plane ticket ready for quick exit
    * Mehsud’s video with flashes around the US
    * Not a suicider so avaiable to repeat
    * He’d signed up for a new job with the Talib having chosen a new career path. He was otherwise broke and his 2-bit MBA wasn’t going to support his or his wife’s lifestyle or his kids.
What we’re fortunate about is his degree from the Pak School of Terror wasn’t even worth 2-bits.

It’s time to revisit our naturalization process. A lot of these punks are becoming citizens through marriage.

The US will also do well to consider doing away with dual nationalities and possible exit visas to the US by their nationals.

    CORRECTION!
The US will also do well to consider doing away with dual nationalities and possible exit visas for all citizens travelling to Pakistan.

I thought this guy was singing like a bird. Now, weeks later, they are still getting info from him. Doesn’t sound like he was so forthcoming to begin with.
For instance, who did you work with in Pakistan? Your family didn’t know you were with the Tban in Pstan after you came to visit them?
The longer he waits to tell those stories, the sparser the trail becomes. He is waiting for those people to cover their tracks so he is still helping the Tban and other co conspirators. His singing is predicated on protecting his contacts and himself. This is probably all in the training manual.

So that means the TTP claimed credit for five failed bombings? And a really quick capture.

You don’t become a citizen through marriage you become a resident through marriage then you go throw the same citizenship process as any other resident.

The Supreme Court has already spoken on dual/multiple nationalities: they’re constitutional and here to stay (and the forcing cases were all Israeli Americans too). There are plenty of “good” dual nationals. Likewise with exit visas: this isn’t the Soviet Union. We don’t do exit visas.

Oops, i forgot! Musta been watching this Afghan war for too long. Sure starts looking like that some times….

Well, I just don’t know if it is Shahzad dribbling out his information or if it is the leak process dribbling out information – in a controlled or uncontrolled manner. I have commented previously that Shahzad seemed to lack conviction like Major Hassan or the underpants bomber and waving his Miranda rights is definitely not in the al Qaeda lawfare manual. I also thought previously that he might be acting under compulsion – his wife and child are in Pakistan along with his extended family. I am less inclined to think so now and tend to see him as an incompetent – evidently with big ideas who got well ahead of himself.
