A suicide bomber killed 23 in an attack in Khalis. Iraq freed two Iranians held for years by the US. Security forces detained 12 wanted men in Basrah and two insurgents in Kirkuk.



Palestinian Territories

The IDF killed two Hamas gunmen that had been attempting to infiltrate Israel along the southern Gaza border. Hamas leadership acknowledged their mission to attack Israel. Meanwhile, Israel launched airstrikes during pre-dawn raids; no casualties were reported.

Pakistan

Police arrested four Pakistanis thought to be linked to the Times Square plot. The US Embassy in Islamabad warned that a catering company has links to terrorist groups. The Taliban strapped bombs to two “US spies” and detonated them in front of a crowd.


Somalia

Insurgents killed a Ugandan soldier in Mogadishu. Six people were killed during clashes between Ethiopian troops and residents of Buhaodlke in Somaliland. Shabaab looted the Radio Somaliweyn headquarters in Mogadishu.

Afghan and Coalition forces detained an undisclosed number of Taliban fighters in Helmand and Kandahar. The Taliban killed an ISAF soldier in the south and hit a helicopter with RPG fire.
