Pakistan

Pakistani security forces killed 15 Taliban fighters in Arakzai. The Taliban killed a soldier, a pro-government tribal leader, and two of his family members in Bajaur. The Taliban then burned the tribal leader’s home to the ground.


Iraq

Insurgents killed an Army major and a civilian in Mosul. Security forces detained nine wanted men in Basrah, five al Qaeda operatives in Mosul and in and around Baghdad, and a 1920™s Revolutionary Brigade smuggler in Bayji.



Somalia

Hizbul Islam leader Hassan Dahir Aweys called for Islamist terror groups to unite. Three people were killed in mortar attacks in Mogadishu. The prime minister has refused to vacate his post, sparking a political crisis.


Afghanistan

Mullah Fazlullah is among seven Taliban fighters thought to have been killed in a clash with border police in Nuristan. The Taliban killed a British Royal Marine and a policeman in attacks in Farah and in the south. Coalition and Afghan forces detained an undisclosed number of Taliban fighters in Kandahar, Helmand, and Khost.

Thailand

A bomb attack in Yala province by Muslim terrorists killed two people and injured at least 55 more. A motorcycle bomb exploded near a car showroom in the town of Yala, and a second bomb exploded when authorities and rescue workers came to help the wounded.
