Seventeen people were killed in the last 24 hours in heavy fighting between rebel fighters and government troops backed by African Union forces in Mogadishu. The fighting erupted in the capital™s Hodan district where government forces carried out surprise attacks on Shabaab positions. Pirates hijacked a Saudi-owned ship and seized a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Aden.
